SSAM ANNUAL MEETING

SSAM will be hosting its 2010 Annual meeting at the Okemos Conference Center, Okemos, Michigan on October 19, 2010. This is a must attend meeting for any size self storage facility operating in the State of Michigan.

This year’s conference will be a full day with two of the most knowledgeable people in the self storage business. Tom Litton of Litton Management will be presenting two sessions. Tron Jordheim of PhoneSmart Off Site Sales force will also be presenting. Along with these two presenters, a representative from the national Self Storage Association (SSA) will be on hand to answer any questions.

SSAM WILL RECEIVE RECOGNITION IN LAS VEGAS!!!

The SSAM will be honored at the Self Storage Associations Fall conference in Las Vegas in September for improving the notification standards during the Lien process. Public Act 177, which went into effect December 15, 2009 allows Lien Notices to be delivered by First-Class Mail or by Electronic Mail resulting in significant savings to Michigan self storage business. Accepting the award on behalf of the SSAM will be President, Jon Hutto and Treasurer, Dan Morris. Hutto and Morris will also be attending the Affiliated state meeting where they will be sharing the SSAM activities over the last couple years.

SSA MATCHING FUNDS CAMPAIGN - UPDATE

SSA has committed to match all funds from SSAM members up to $10,000 to help fund our continued fight against “Sales Tax on Service”. The board is asking you to do your part and support the work SSAM does for you. With your help we can work even harder!! To make your donation please contact the SSAM office at (888)308-7726. At this time we have 21 donations have been made totaling $3,550. Thank you to those who donated there is still time for SSAM members to make their donation today.

SPEEDWAY SUPER FLEET PROGRAM

SSAM has partnered with MMH & RVCA on their gasoline program through Speedway Super Fleet. Newly enrolled members will receive a $0.10/ gal discount for the first 90 days on gasoline and diesel fuel purchased at the pump and a $0.05/ gal discount thereafter based on participation.  The corporate gasoline card is good at Speedway, Marathon and Rich gasoline stations and also at Valvoline Instant Oil Change locations and offer the member discounts on fuel and oil changes.  Call Betty at the Association office 888-308-7726 ext 21 for further information and/or an application.

SSAM WELCOMES NEW STAFF MEMBER

SSAM would like to give a warm welcome to our newest staff member Marenia Rabi who is filling the position of the Association’s Controller while Betty Smith, controller for the last 20 years, prepares to retire July 1, 2011. SSAM 2010/11 BOARD OF DIRECTORS

The following people have been elected as Officers for the Self Storage Association of Michigan for the 2010-2011 term. President: Jon Hutto, Hutto Investments, Vice President: Maurice Pogoda, Pogoda Companies, Secretary: Teresa Leonard, Northern Self Storage, Treasurer: Dan Morris, Chelsea Self Storage. The remaining board members are Chad Lundberg, The Storage Group, James Meredith, U-Haul Company of West Michigan and Kim Scott, Medallion Group. The board would also like the thank Richard Alwood of Charlotte Mini Storage for serving during the 2009-2010 term.
